I spend a lot of time writing and talking about sexism, women's rights, male violence against women, and allyship. Given that I'm supposed to be retired, I'm sometimes asked why I still bother.
Truth is, I've always written. I kept diaries from the age of about 6 (some of which I still have), was a prolific letter-writer before the internet, and am known to bang out "strongly worded e-mails" when I'm not happy about something. Couple that with an early realisation that the world didn't serve women well, and Voila! Why do I bother? Well, not much has changed, to be honest. When I look back over the decades and then at what's happening now, we've replaced topless posters in the staff kitchen with microaggressions and cyber-sexism. We still have a pay gap, not enough women on boards and in top level jobs, domestic violence is epidemic, and there are too many double standards in many aspects of life. As well as my column at Medium, I'll be writing here about the latest examples of sexism, recommending great authors to read, giving advice about what to say and anything else that takes my fancy. Stay tuned!

Hello, and thanks for coming to my website.
I'm not going to lie, it's been a difficult year. My husband of 33 years passed away a few months before this website was completed and between the grief and the admin, I've had neither the time nor the inclination to blog. But, now I'm ready to get back in the saddle. I blogged for a decade as Expat Mum when I was living in the States and I love putting pen to paper. I'll be talking mostly about feminist 'stuff' but when the occasional US/UK incident or issue arises I'll be all over that! And if you have any topics you'd like to suggest, I'm all ears. All the best, Toni |
