I spend a lot of time writing and talking about sexism, women's rights, male violence against women, and allyship. Given that I'm supposed to be retired, I'm sometimes asked why I still bother.
Truth is, I've always written. I kept diaries from the age of about 6 (some of which I still have), was a prolific letter-writer before the internet, and am known to bang out "strongly worded e-mails" when I'm not happy about something. Couple that with an early realisation that the world didn't serve women well, and Voila! Why do I bother? Well, not much has changed, to be honest. When I look back over the decades and then at what's happening now, we've replaced topless posters in the staff kitchen with microaggressions and cyber-sexism. We still have a pay gap, not enough women on boards and in top level jobs, domestic violence is epidemic, and there are too many double standards in many aspects of life. As well as my column at Medium, I'll be writing here about the latest examples of sexism, recommending great authors to read, giving advice about what to say and anything else that takes my fancy. Stay tuned!
